Newham’s Housing Needs service is making good progress preventing homelessness and reducing its’ use of temporary accommodation.

We are determined to continually improve our performance and to provide customer centred services. Recent changes to our management structures at the Housing Options Centre, the Temporary Accommodation Service and the Lettings Agency have focussed on these objectives. Newham’s Homelessness Strategy has just been completely reviewed. It contains ambitious targets for the service that require our staff to fully engage in joint working and partnerships.

We have vacancies in a number of key areas. These are excellent opportunities for people who can demonstrate relevant experience together with a commitment to service delivery and achieving performance targets.

Prevention and Advice Officers

Ref No. HP43310A Scale SO2 Salary £28,434 – £30,003pa

You will play a key part in improving services from the first point of contact with a customer to the prevention of homelessness using your casework skills. With relevant experience in housing advice you will also have an understanding of homelessness legislation. An excellent communicator, you will also know how to manage a demanding caseload.

As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
